April 8 (Wed)9:30 Sign-in April 9 Rain day AFD BikeJam Juan de Fuca Recreation Centre, Colwood All, presented by AFD Petroleum A festival-style participation event for kids to try the different disciplines and get hooked enough to come do the series.   7 stations, with try- it demonstrations and coaching from local pros: including: mtb, bmx, velodrome, road, cyclocross, dirt jump (airbag), dual slalom. Shotgun start: students divided into groups by grade with a leader, spend 30 minutes at each station
April 14 Cross Country Short Course Bear Mt. or Hartland Marty’s Mountain Cycle Short circuit around 500m, with easy and technical sections (rationale: short laps allow riders to repeat technical features and improve.) Recommend existing course: works well, easy to get to, challenging but not killer.
April 21 Road Criterium Western Speedway Straight-Up and TripleShot Cycling Club 600 m car racing oval. May have additional corners. Multiple races, results by points in each race (omnium style)Short circuit around 500m, with easy and technical sections (rationale: short laps allow riders to repeat technical features and improve.) Recommend existing course: works well, easy to get to, challenging but not killer.
April 28 Enduro Hartland or Bear Mt. Trek Store – Pro City Racing Approx 2 km course, time trial style, one rider at a time, 30 sec intervals to avoid passing.  Two rides for each rider if they want.(tentatively)
May 5 Cyclocross Bear Mt. Resort Performance Bicycles and the Cross Club Off road, but wider, smoother course than mtb, with room for passing, dismounts and run-ups.  Open to mountain bikes and cross bikes.  Mini clinic before the race.
May 12 Cross Country Long Course Bear Mt. Or Hartland Sooke Mountain Cycle Recommend existing figure 8 course of regional and shock treatment be used. Long enough to spread them out, but can see them 2x per lap to encourage them. Also a good mix of green, blue and black trails.
May 19 BMX Juan de Fuca Recreation Centre, Colwood Goldstream Bicycles and Victoria BMX 4 rider heats (more room than traditional 8)Clinic first, then 3 heats minimum per rider (against different riders each time, placing by points, 1 for win, 2, etc, lowest total wins.Mtb, dirt jump or bmx bikes welcome.  Some bmx bikes for loan.
May 23 (Sat) BC High School Championships(xc & enduro mtb) Powell River Grade 8-12 only, and only schools which are members of BC School Sports (middle schools aren’t)www.bchsmtnbikingchampionships.weebly.com
May 26 Velodrome(track) Juan de Fuca Recreation Centre, Colwood Broad St. Bikes & Greater Victoria Velodrome Association Clinic, followed by timed events such as flying lap, Olympic sprint for results
June 2 FreeRide ThreeRide (Pump, Jump and  Dual Slalom) North Saanich Freeride Park or Bear Mt. Oak Bay Bikes and AFD Dual slalom, pump track TT, and dirt jump judged comp.  All suitable for beginners and experts. League prizes, thank you’s, bbq, riding, etc.
June 9 Rain Day Keep this day free just in case the velodrome, bmx, or Free Ride Park gets rained out

Notes:

  • Rain: all dates rain or shine except velodrome. Any changes or cancellations will be posted and it is the riders and schools responsibility to check
  • Many of the races are on courses organized and marshaled by local clubs, supporting the league. Please take a moment to thank them for arranging thecourses.
  • A regular mountain bike is appropriate for m ost events, though a road or cyclocross bike is better for the road events. For road events, mountain bikes or cyclocross bikes can be adapted with inexpesnive slick tires from any bike shop. For BMX and velodrome events, loaner bikes are provided, or bring your own BMX bike or track bike.
  • All riders must register through their school. A school approved sponsor parent or teacher is required. Contact the school Athletic Director for details.
