The Dave Ravenhill Memorial Scholarship

The David Ravenhill Scholarship is designed to reflect the attributes of the professional person Dave was, the gifted athlete, the talented teacher, the passionate coach.

Dave worked at Reynolds Secondary School for over 30 years where he taught and coached, and where he connected students to the broader community.  In doing so, he was able to change the lives of so many.

He dedicated his life to promoting soccer and became an integral part of the sport in Victoria. While soccer was an enormous part of David’s life, he was also interested in developing athletes of all stripes. What was important to Dave was not simply a student’s athletic ability, but rather Dave was focused on the student athlete as a complete person.

Dave encouraged and fostered in his students the ideals of fair play, integrity, commitment, discipline and resiliency. Any recipient of this scholarship should embody these attributes. It will be awarded by LVISSAA upon recommendation of the Dave Ravenhill Scholarship Committee.

The Dave Ravenhill Memorial Scholarship Application

Applicants must have competed in at least one LVISSAA approved sport during Grade 12. They must be enrolled in a LVISSAA member school and will be entering their first year of full-time studies in a University or College. Applicants must have demonstrated exceptional athletic achievement, sportsmanship and integrity in a LVISSAA sport, have a minimum grade percentage of 75% and have demonstrated outstanding service and leadership skills in school and/or community. 

Two scholarships of $500 will be awarded to one male and one female student-athlete. The scholarship funds have been provided by the World Cup Festival Society. 

Applicants will be required to submit:

• A short essay on how school sport has impacted their school experience
• A list of LVISSAA sports they participated in
• Any academic and athletic achievements they have accomplished
• A letter of recommendation from a teacher or school coach
• Transcript

All applications must be submitted by the school Athletic Director to the Athletic Coordinator’s office via email. Schools can submit up to 4 applications (2 of each gender) each year.
