Coaches Package 2024

Jamboree Dates:
Mon Sept 16
Mon Oct 7
Tues Oct 15

League Format:

  • Jamboree style with 3 playdates. All games are exhibition. No scores are to be reported.
  • Schools can declare their skill level on the sign up sheet.
  • Coaches are to share the officiating responsibilities. Can be done from the sideline or on field (need to have a whistle).
  • All teams are co-ed, grades 6-8. Games are 7 aside. Schools should strive for a 4/3 gender ratio on the field at all times. For this first season, schools will be restricted to 2 teams per play date.
  • Games will be 2 x 12 minute halves with 1 minute half time and a 5 minute break between games. Game kick off times will be 3:30pm, 4:00pm, 4:30pm.
  • Games are played on 1/2 size soccer field approx. 40m across X 60m long. Two corner flags (or large cones) 5 yards apart will be used as goals.
  • The ball must be below the height of the flag/cone to be considered a goal.
  • No goalkeepers.
  • There will be no throw-ins. Kick ins with a free 5 metre pass.
  • No offsides.
  • When a goal is scored. The ball will be returned to the centre line with the opposite team getting possession.

Organization:

  • Games will be played using field rotation, not assigned games.
  • Coaches who show up to host sites may be designated a field to set up (location and general direction given to them from host AD). This will allow games to get going faster and will also really help out host schools.
  • The number of fields will be determined by the number of teams in attendance
  • If there is an odd number of teams, one of the rotations will be a “rest”
  • As games are underway, it will be possible to adjust rotations to match skill levels of teams as needed
  • At the host site coaches may decide that it is in the best interest of the student-athletes to divide the players based on their skill and experience level instead of playing as a school team. All players must be involved in the same number of games (meaning the experienced players should not play more games than developing players)
  • Coaches need to inform host schools prior to arriving to the school if the number of teams they are travelling with has changed.

Coaches are reminded that their primary responsibility is to educate their students and players, and that athletic success should at all times be considered secondary to the sportsmanship and enjoyment of the game. Coaches are asked to:

  • Immediately remove from the field and discipline any players guilty of deliberately violent play or actions.
  • Remove from the field any players guilty of repeated foul play, even should this escape the notice of the referee,
  • Refrain from questioning the decisions of the referee, and discourage players who do so.
  • Encourage all players to obey the spirit as well as the letter of the laws.
  • Contribute at all times to everyone’s enjoyment of the game.
